Nimbin Central School is launching a new Volunteering Project designed to support young people to discover volunteering in a meaningful, values-led way.
This project invites students to explore how they can give back to their community in ways that feel authentic to them — whether that’s helping out locally, supporting a cause they care about, or offering their time and skills in small but powerful ways. The focus is not on resumes or rewards, but on connection, empathy and understanding the impact of showing up for others.
While the Careers Day highlights what young people can gain through volunteering — such as skills, experience and pathways — the Volunteering Project shifts the focus to what can be given. It encourages students to reflect on care, responsibility and community, and to see volunteering as something rooted in heart, purpose and shared humanity.
Local organisations and volunteers will play an important role in supporting this project by offering safe, inclusive and youth-friendly opportunities where young people can learn, contribute and feel valued.
Together, this project aims to nurture a culture of generosity, belonging and active citizenship — strengthening both young people and the community they are part of.
