Tech Wizard Award — Meet the nominees

For the volunteer who saves the day with their tech skills, fixing computers, projectors, or social media posts.

Nominees:
Mark Palmer Mark Palmer has been a Nimbin volunteer for over 14 years, offering device advice and practical support to help older people stay connected through phones, tablets, laptops, and the internet. Each week at the Nimbin Aged Care & Respite Services social centre, he gives his time to patiently unravel tricky tech issues that can otherwise feel overwhelming. People say he is friendly, thoughtful, and reliable, quietly resolving problems and easing stress for those he helps. His steady support has made a real difference in keeping people connected and confident. A well-deserved Tech Wizard, Mark is one of those people the community turns to when things simply need to work.

Rain Wickham
Rain Wickham is a Nimbin volunteer who, in less than three years, has become a valued part of the community through her strong digital and communication skills. Through her involvement with Nimbin Youth, she helps create a safe and welcoming space for young people, while also supporting the visibility and connection of the group through social media and online platforms. She contributes to several local organisations by managing communications and digital presence, helping keep the community informed, connected, and engaged. People say she brings both positivity and ease, using her tech skills to make things accessible and run smoothly behind the scenes. A well-deserved Tech Wizard, Rain combines creativity and digital know-how to strengthen connection across the Nimbin community.

James Wickham (Wick)
Wick is known as the quiet force behind many of the digital systems supporting initiatives like Nimbin Youth and Nimbin Village. A true tech wizard, he has a rare ability to turn complex challenges into simple, reliable tools that just work. While some of his work is professional, he also gives his time generously to community projects, often contributing well beyond what is expected. People say he approaches problems with calm, patience, and precision, working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. Through his skill and generosity, Wick strengthens community organisations and helps bring ideas to life in practical, lasting ways.
