Can Do Anything Award — Meet the nominees

For the volunteer who is willing to take on any task, no matter how big or small.

Darren Cleaver
Darren Cleaver has been a long-term volunteer at the Nimbin Neighbourhood Centre, known for his remarkable ability to turn his hand to just about anything. From troubleshooting complex tech issues to helping at the front desk or jumping into practical tasks, Darren is someone people rely on. Those around him often say there’s no problem too big or too strange for Darren to tackle — and he does it with patience and creativity. His willingness to step in wherever needed makes a real difference every day. Darren truly represents the Can Do Anything spirit — capable, resourceful and always ready to help.

Diana Roberts
Diana Roberts has been quietly shaping the Nimbin community for decades, contributing her skills across the Community Centre, Chamber of Commerce, Nimbin Advisory Group, Aquarius Archives, the Rainbow Walk project and Landcare — and many other local initiatives along the way. People often say that when something complex needs to be done, Diana is the one who steps in — whether it’s navigating council processes, securing funding, or holding organisations steady through challenge and change. Her more than 20 years of persistence on the Rainbow Walk project is just one example of her determination, turning a difficult vision into a lasting community asset. Those who have worked alongside her speak of her depth of knowledge, her integrity, and her extraordinary ability to both lead and support — often behind the scenes, and always without seeking recognition. From governance and grant writing to practical problem-solving, Diana brings clarity, structure and momentum wherever she is involved. Diana truly embodies the spirit of the Can Do Anything award — capable, committed, and one of those rare people who quietly help hold an entire community together.

Kathleen Williamson
Kathleen Williamson is one of the quiet forces behind MardiGrass. People often don’t see the hours of work behind the scenes — but Kathleen is the one making sure everything is in place, from permits and compliance to the countless details that allow the event to run smoothly. She is also a driving force behind the Hemposium, bringing together speakers from across fields to inform and inspire the community. Those who work with her know her as someone meticulous, reliable and deeply committed — the person who makes things happen without fuss. Her ability to manage complexity and carry responsibility with calm determination is invaluable. Kathleen truly embodies the Can Do Anything spirit — capable, dependable, and essential behind the scenes.

Samuel Herren
Samuel Herren volunteers with the Nimbin Bowling Club. He is described as someone who gets things done and is always ready to help, bringing a very practical, hands-on approach. Known for his skills as a handyman, Sam steps in where needed and contributes in a focused and hands-on approach. People value his willingness to act and his ability to turn practical skills into real support. He doesn’t overcomplicate things — he just gets on with it. Sam embodies the spirit of the Can Do Anything award — capable, practical and always ready to lend a hand.

Scott Sledge
Scott Sledge has been a dedicated volunteer with the Nimbin Environment Centre for decades, and a long-standing advocate for environmental protection across the Northern Rivers. As President of the NEC and the Northern Rivers Guardians, he has been involved in a wide range of initiatives — from koala protection and major protest movements to ongoing campaigns like the Richmond River Koala Park project. People describe Sledge as both a man of action and a thoughtful communicator, sharing his knowledge through regular articles in the Nimbin Good Times and encouraging others to get involved. He shows up — at meetings, protests and community actions — and contributes wherever needed. Sledge embodies the spirit of the Can Do Anything award — committed, capable, and always ready to take action for his community and the environment.
