Each morning, he cleans and maintains the skate park and playground, ensuring there’s no glass or sharps around so it’s safe for young people, families, and visitors to enjoy. He notifies the community of any vandalism or dangerous snakes and animals that may be lurking, and he’s always there to offer advice and skating tips to the kids. But Neil’s work extends far beyond the skate park—he plants trees, tends gardens, and looks after the structural integrity of facilities at Allsopp Park, while also volunteering to help maintain the Rainbow Walk. Usually working alone and without fanfare, Neil’s consistency and care have transformed these shared spaces, preserving their beauty and ensuring they remain welcoming for locals and visitors alike. It’s no surprise that Neil received five separate nominations for this award, with an outpouring of support from across the community—proof that even when the work is done quietly, people notice, people appreciate it, and they want to say thank you.

Wan Cheah is one of those rare people who seems to be everywhere at once—always ready to lend a hand, offer his truck, or give someone a lift, even when he’s hurt himself. He doesn’t belong to any particular organisation, but ask anyone in the community who can help with this or that, and the answer is always the same: “Have you tried Wan?” This selfless free spirit contributes purely from the heart, showing up time and again for anyone who needs him. He dances to his own beat, helping in his own way, and his quiet generosity has touched countless lives across the community. Kara Miers
Kara can be found on Cullen Street every single day, quietly picking up rubbish and collecting cigarette butts from the footpaths. It’s her way of giving back to the community that looks out for her. Without her efforts, the street would be a much untidier place.

Richard Willis
Richard is a Nimbin volunteer who has been supporting HART Services since 2015, helping people who are transport disadvantaged get to essential medical appointments, often over long distances. HART relies on volunteer drivers to provide this door-to-door support, and without them, the service simply couldn’t operate. People say Richard is someone you can rely on, always showing up and getting the job done without fuss. He’s known for going above and beyond, making each journey easier and more comfortable for those he supports. A well-deserved Outlander, recognised for giving generously beyond a Nimbin organisation while still serving the community.
